HGVT has the largest network of training centres in the UK.
Our network ensures that 95% of the UK population is never more that one hour away from one of our centres.
The area of Scotland we know as Grampian includes the city of Aberdeen as well as the local council areas of Aberdeenshire and Moray. It is home to hundreds of thousands of people who depend on local businesses for employment and a steady supply of goods and services. And all of those businesses rely on the logistics industry to provide them with consumer goods, materials, equipment, etc.
Many of us take the logistics industry for granted, assuming that it will always do what it has always done. But did you know that the industry is short tens of thousands of drivers right now? Indeed, the driver shortage is only expected to continue through 2020 and beyond. A combination of driver retirements and an expanding economy suggests that transport and haulage companies could need as many as 100,000 new drivers over the next decade. You can be one of those drivers by completing our HGV training in Grampian.
Our local training centre in the Grampian region is only one of more than four dozen we operate around the UK. Each of our training facilities provides high-quality training for all classes of commercial vehicles. We can train you to drive:
Above and beyond large commercial vehicles, we also offer training for forklifts, ambulances, and trailer-towing purposes. Our students find the training they receive at our centres to be more than adequate. It is thorough, convenient, and affordable for most budgets. We invite you to learn more about our HGV training in Grampian if you have ever considered a career as a professional driver.
Almost every career choice you can think of requires some sort of formal or informal training. Professional driving is no exception. The most successful career drivers are those who have received the best possible training from companies like ours. This starts with the initial training one needs to get a commercial driving licence; it continues throughout the driver’s career with regular CPC training and employer-sponsored training programmes.
Our philosophy at the HGV Training Centre dictates that successful training is comprised of two things:
We regularly achieve high pass rates by teaching our students in a way that maximises how the brain naturally learns. Understanding our training approach is simple: just consider how it is you learned to speak as a child. Your parents did not sit you down and spend hours lecturing you about the rules of English grammar. Nor did they endlessly drill you with vocabulary.
Instead, you learned to speak through a step-by-step method that was very natural to your brain. First you learned to perform certain sounds then you learned to form those sounds into words. Finally, you learned to form those words into sentences. Our training works the same way.
We start by teaching our students the basic concepts of commercial driving. These are the conceptions they will need to learn in order to pass the HGV theory test. We then build on those concepts in classroom training that teaches them the full compendium of driving theory. Finally, we apply all of that knowledge by putting our students in late-model vehicles and actually teaching them how to drive.
All of this is done using a fast-paced and concentrated methodology that presents information in short bursts. Why short bursts? Because these cause the student’s short-term memory to kick into high gear, making it possible to connect each lesson to the next in quick succession. This improves comprehension, increases retention, and makes recall easier at test time. Remember, more than 90% of our students need only one try to pass their tests.
We understand that not all of our students enjoy taking tests. But unfortunately, testing determines your eligibility to possess a commercial driving licence. The government requires you to pass four specific tests taken at different times throughout your training. If you cannot pass, you cannot obtain your licence.
The reality of testing has led us to develop a training programme with a heavy concentration on the exams themselves. By the time you finish our HGV training in Grampian, you will be more than prepared to face your exams with confidence. That confidence should result in passing the first time around. We make it a point to do everything we can to ensure our students don’t have to take the tests multiple times.
You should also note that the law now requires all professional drivers to be CPC qualified. The CPC requirements were implemented in the UK in 2008, with all new PCV drivers undergoing CPC training to earn their initial licences. New HGV drivers began CPC training 2009. At this point, all professional drivers should now have a CPC qualification card. You will get yours upon completion of your training.
The CPC qualification card demonstrates that a driver is both safe and proficient. Cards are good for five calendar years regardless of the date of issue. In other words, if you were to earn your first card at any time in 2016 it would be good through 31 December 2021. You would need to undergo an additional 35 hours of CPC training sometime during 2021 in order to renew your card for an additional five years.
CPC cards must be carried by drivers whenever they are working. They must be produced upon request by police or any other agency with enforcement authority. Failure to possess a valid card can result in stiff penalties, including fines and loss of licence.
Our HGV training in Grampian meets all CPC requirements as established by the JAUPT. This means that we can train drivers to obtain their initial qualification cards as part of their licence training programme. It also means we can provide the ongoing CPC training a driver needs throughout his or her career. We do so through individual training classes as well as custom designed corporate training for our business clients.
