Several recessions over the years have not been kind to the Rhondda Cynon Taff area of South Wales. However, government and business leaders have been working hard to restore the local economy by encouraging more light industry and service-based businesses capable of taking advantage of tourist traffic passing through the area. It is paying off. Rhondda Cynon Taff is slowly regaining its economic footing to the delight of local restaurants.
A key part of the county’s economic redevelopment is logistics and transport. For example, all of the industrial companies now operating in the region require a steady supply of equipment and materials. Articulated lorries and box trucks bring that cargo into Rhondda Cynon Taff. Where tourism traffic is concerned, buses and coaches provide the transport necessary to move passengers throughout the region.
Have you considered driving articulated lorries or coaches for a living? Does the idea of spending your days on the open road intrigue you? If so, we want to introduce to you our HGV training in Rhondda Cynon Taff. Our local training programme is part of a nationwide operation that includes more than four dozen schools throughout Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Becoming a professional driver isn’t really possible or practical without at least some training. If nothing else, CPC mandates require new drivers undergoing a minimal amount of training in order to obtain their initial CPC qualification cards. Further training is also a very good idea for new drivers who want to take and pass the necessary tests on the first try. That’s where we come in. We train future drivers not only to be CPC qualified but to pass all the tests.
There are four different tests new drivers must take:
We want you to know that there is no reason to fear testing when you train with us. Our HGV training in Rhondda Cynon Taff provides you with the knowledge, skills, and confidence you need to succeed. More than 90% of our drivers pass each of the tests on the first attempt.
One of the ways we achieve such a high first-time pass rate is by concentrating on the tests themselves. Consider this: testing is the only way the DVLA can determine whether a candidate truly should get a commercial driving licence. If you cannot pass the tests, you cannot get a licence. It is that simple. Therefore, our training philosophy is one that focuses on training to the test in order to make sure our students pass.
Training to the test involves two things. First are the actual knowledge and skills that candidates need to possess. In other words, training to the test involves the ‘what’. All of the skills and knowledge being imparted can be divided into one of the three following categories:
By imparting the required knowledge and skill sets, we prepare students for the ‘what’ portion of testing. Then we go one step further. We also teach them how to take tests utilising strategies that will increase their chances of passing on the first attempt. We can use that HGV theory test as a good example.
The theory test is a two-part test involving both multiple-choice questions and computer-based videos. There are particular strategies for taking multiple-choice tests we teach our students. For example, the theory exam may ask the same question, phrased three or four different ways, to measure whether a candidate truly understands the material. We teach our students how to read and interpret questions so that they always know what it is they are being asked.
As for the video portion of the test, candidates are measured on their ability to correctly spot developing hazards in a reasonable amount of time. The test involves using a touchscreen to record the candidates’ responses. For someone who has never taken this kind of test before, it can be somewhat intimidating. Therefore, we give our students opportunities to take practice tests so that they can become comfortable with the process before they have to sit for the real thing.
Here at the HGV Training Centre, we believe that confidence goes a long way toward being a successful driver. Therefore, we make a point of building confidence through our HGV training in Rhondda Cynon Taff. Every student who passes through our doors is provided with step-by-step assistance throughout the entire training process. Extra help and support are provided to any student who seems to be struggling. The end goal of our training is to have students that are knowledgeable, skilled, and confident in their abilities.
Confident drivers are safe drivers who are less likely to make rash decisions. Why does this matter? Because the confidence we instil in our students goes well beyond just testing. It affects them throughout their entire careers. Simply put, our drivers refer to their training time and again. What they learned at the HGV training centre, and how they learned it, serves them well year after year.
