The ‘CPC’ or ‘Certificate of Professional Competence’ is a relatively new EU training initiative aimed at everyone who drives for commercial purposes. This has been designed to ensure than new drivers are skilled in other areas than just driving an HGV (vehicle maintenance, load security, traffic laws etc), and that current drivers receive a set minimum of training hours during their time on the road. The two types of CPC are explained below:
Initial CPC – this qualification is for new drivers gaining their HGV driving licence. (If you passed your car licence test before 1997, please read the section ‘Periodic Training’
below, as the Initial CPC only applies for trainees who passed their car test after 1997). If you do need an Initial CPC, follow Step 1 below. If you passed your test before 1997, please follow Step 2 below.
CPC Periodic Training requires the completion of a minimum of 35hrs training every five years, for all commercial HGV drivers. This is done to ensure that current HGV drivers are fully up to date with all the latest Road Transport laws and regulations. To do this, all drivers must attend at least 35hrs of training sessions over the five years to be road legal. At The , we monitor all drivers and track the progress of their CPC Periodic Training. We also offer a full range of courses that can you can attend to complete anything from one hours CPC Training – through to the full 35hrs in one hit! Get in touch to find out more.
