Recruiting Effort Demonstrates Need for LGV Drivers

A recent recruiting drive at a Devon-based haulage company shows just how positive the job market is for commercial drivers. The company, Gregory Distribution, recently undertook that drive in order to hire 20 new LGV drivers to fill open spots and provide the necessary personnel to launch the company’s new flexible driving pool. The Express & Echo reported on the recruiting effort on January 18.

According to the paper, Gregory Distribution is using the recruitment effort to create a pool of drivers they can plug in to various projects. Immediate vacancies will be filled right away, while the remaining drivers will be used to fill upcoming contracts.

Business Unit Director Darren Beaven told the Express & Echo that his company is looking for drivers who already possess their LGV licence. However, he stressed they are also looking for young drivers and those who are newly licenced. Recruiting younger workers allows the company to train them according to established company policies.

Gregory’s recruitment day will be held on January 25 at their Cullompton depot. Obviously, there is no time if you are not already licensed. Drivers who do participate in the recruitment day will be given a short history of the company followed by an opportunity to meet current drivers and other staff members. The event goes from 10 am to 3 pm at the company depot located in the Kingsmill Industrial Estate.
