After successful tests in Asia and Africa, industry-leading telematics company Ctrack is set to roll out its new RFID cargo tracking system in the UK. Their new Integrated Security Intelligent Solution (ISIS) is an ideal tracking solution for cargo that is extremely valuable and/or time sensitive. The company expects it to be widely used by hauliers involved in transporting cash, fuels, chemicals, and so on.
The system combines RFID technology with security seals and the company’s tracking software to enable cargo haulers to load, track, and confirm the receipt of cargo in real time. Ctrack is initially offering three systems; one for pallets, another for packaging, and a third for cases of goods.
There will undoubtedly be some additional fleet driver training necessary among companies that implement the new system. However, that training will be very limited in nature. Most of the responsibility for implementing and using the system properly will fall on depot managers and cargo handlers. Training for drivers will likely be limited to understanding the security seals and how to know when they have been tempered with.
In addition to the UK deployment, Ctrack will also introduce ISIS to Holland and a number of Scandinavian countries. It seems only a matter of time before the system is deployed throughout Europe.
While the new RFID cargo tracking system is a great tool for hauliers and cargo managers, it is equally beneficial to drivers as well. It gives them another tool in their arsenal to make sure cargo remains safe throughout the duration of transport. At the same time, it enables them to worry less about cargo so they can concentrate their fullest attentions on the task of driving.
Among a small handful of dishonest drivers who would attempt to help themselves to cargo, the system acts as a very strong deterrent. Once a driver knows his or her cargo has been secured and is now being tracked, he or she is more likely to deliver it without issue.
The HGV Training Centre recognises that Ctrack’s new system does nothing to improve driver safety or efficiency. It is not intended to. It’s intended only to make cargo safer and easier to track from point to point. Making drivers safer and more efficient is the job of companies like ours.
We embrace that responsibility with a commitment to both individual drivers and the companies that employ them. We pride ourselves on the quality of fleet driver training we offer for all sorts of vehicles and classes. At the HGV Training Centre, we equip drivers to operate lorries, buses, coaches, horseboxes, vans, forklifts, and heavy construction equipment. We also offer CPC training for both current HGV and PCV drivers who have not yet completed it.
If your company is in need of comprehensive fleet driver training, we encourage you to get in touch with us at the HGV Training Centre. We have dozens of facilities around the UK with new classes forming on a regular schedule.
