What is LGV CPC training? If you are a working LGV driver who does not know the answer to that question, you are running out of time to find out. The deadline to be CPC certified is September 14 of this year. After that date you will be ineligible to continue working if you have not completed training.
The CPC requirements are nothing new in Europe. These were approved years ago under a framework of legislation designed to make European roads safer. Here in the UK, the government has been pushing hard to remind drivers and employers to complete training before the deadline. Any driver receiving his or her LGV licence prior to September 2009 must undergo 35 hours of classroom training in order to be CPC certified. Drivers earning the licences after that date received the training as part of their initial instruction.
Once training is complete, the driver receives a CPC certificate proving compliance. That certificate needs to be carried with the driver at all times while he or she is working. It is good until the end of the fifth year after it was issued, meaning drivers must undergo remedial training sometime during that fifth year.
The point of the CPC requirements is to ensure that all commercial drivers operating in Europe are competent enough to operate their vehicle safely. Changes in regulations and equipment necessitate remedial training to keep drivers up to speed every five years. That remedial training might be paid for by employers, it may have to be covered by the drivers themselves.
The HGV Training Centre is proud to include CPC training on our list of services. After all, what is LGV training worth if we do not make it possible for our long-term customers to include CPC certification in their training programmes? Not much. We offer CPC classes because it is our goal to be the only source of commercial driver training your company needs.
